AHC/WI: Jewish SSR in Central Asia

As the title says, what happens if the Soviets decided to make a Jewish SSR in Central Asia with an idea similar to Jewish Autonomous Oblast, a Soviet Socialist Republic for Jews?

Where exactly in Central Asia you reckoned the Jewish SSR will be placed in?

Will this Jewish SSR break-away from Soviet Union like other SSRs or remained in the Russian Federation as an Federal Republic?

Pardon for double-post.

Well, I've been having some odd ideas about another Jewish state other than Israel for the TL I'm working on. One of it set in western parts of Kazakhstan, comprised of OTL provinces of West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Mangystau, and Aktobe. Odd it sounds I know, it's just one of my ideas. The premise is what if Stalin or the Soviet Leadership made it as an Soviet Jewish republic, let alone in Central Asia akin to Jewish Autonomous Oblast. Though Israel will exists but I've imagined it to be a little different from OTL.

Well, I got an idea from this thread about a possible Khazaria SSR. However, I'm aware that Central Asia is pretty much an inhospitable lands.

And I thought the Kazakhs are more tolerant of Jews like other Central Asians, more than Tsarist Russians and even contemporary Russians. I imagined they won't mind too much or have beef against the Jews. Well, I've read few things in regards to Central Asian history of Jews, particularly in Kazakhstan itself.

Though, most Jews would prefer going to Israel instead than going to the hypothetical Jewish SSR. I have yet to decide which area to occupy, ideally a coastal one like Atyrau or Mangystau, because it's good to have a coastal port or two.

I've even had some name ideas for my hypothetical Jewish SSR state:

  • Yakhudistan - Based on Arabia 'Al-Yahud' in Russified form, added with 'stan.
  • Iudeya - Russian for 'Judea'
  • Yevreystan/Yevreistan - Russian for 'Jew', added with 'stan'. Like Yahud, 'Land of Jews'.
  • Jokhudistan/Zhokhudistan - Based from 'Johud', Persian for 'Jew' added with 'stan' in Russified form.
Welp, that's my name ideas so far for the hypothetical Jewish Soviet state.

So, what are your thoughts on the subject of Jewish country SSR, you reckoned it's feasible or not? And on other hand, what do you imagined if this Jewish SSR became independent or part of the Russian Federation as an federal republic?

I think it'll run into the same problems that the Jewish Autonomous Oblast ran into, which is that no Jew wanted to go there. In 1939, there were 17k Jews in the JAO - 16% of the population and that was after an absolutely massive PR campaign by the Soviet government to encourage Jews to go there (they literally dropped leaflets over a Jewish neighborhood in Belarus, for example). Add in Stalin's antisemitism and the post-war purges, and it'll make a Jewish SSR unappealing.

A Jewish SSR will have the same issue.

The lands east of Lake Balkhash aren't the worst. In 1906 Almaty's population was only 27,000. If you keep the capital of Kazakhstan in Kyzylorda, then eastern Kazakhstan will probably remain relatively low-population.

The population of the city grew from 104,000 in 1919 to 365,000 in 1968.

I think this might be more successful if they make it in Bukhara rather then a random place in Kazakhstan or as IOTL an even more random place near Vladivostok Bukhara already had a decent Jewish population so the Soviets can build on that. If they deport the non Jewish population, something Stalin was never shy of doing, they can offer the Jews miving in nice townhouses. Additionally the Jews will be moving to a nice city with a pleasant Mediterranean climate and a historical and contemporary Jewish presence instead of a random province in the far east.
