As Dreamers Do Part Deux

Where are they now?

Michael Strahan

Former NFL defensive end. New York Giants (1993-2000), Los Angeles Rams (2001-07)
After retiring from [gridiron] football as a player, his first broadcasting job was with UPN, where he shared the booth with Ernie Johnson covering the WLAF.
This year, he will join Ricki Lake on SBC's morning show Sunrise.

Dick Stockton
Now at UPN covering the NBA and the WLAF as a play by play announcer.

Charlie Jones
Longtime AFL/NFL announcer for NBC Sports.
When SBC held the AFC rights from 1987 until '89, Jones stayed at NBC to cover the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He also stayed at NBC to cover the USFL/WLAF from 1988 until 1990.
Jones moved to Fox in 1991 when Disney took over the WLAF contract.
In 1992, Jones, who lived in San Diego County, became the first play by play voice of the Mighty Ducks for regional telecasts. After the 1992-93 NHL season was complete, Jones left KTTY, Fox's San Diego affiliate, to accept an offer from the upstart Arizona Diamondbacks of MLB.
Passed away in March 2009 after a long illness.

ABOVE: Phil Palmfeather from the Mighty Ducks animated series.

Dear Tiffany,

On the Mighty Duck cartoon from the Nineties, who was the basis for Phil Palmfeather?

Sincerely,
Lorenzo Armstrong
Kansas City, Missouri

Tiffany Disney:
"Sir Daniel Abbott based Phil Palmfeather's design on what my Dad looked like when the Mighty Duck franchise was first added to the NHL back in 1991. Dad paid the expansion fee only a month after he released D1. One exception was that Dad still wore tracksuits and high-top Nikes when he appeared on camera for the anthology series."

Dear Tiffany,

Is there a way your team can at least play a preseason game at Arco Arena? I'd like to watch them play in my hometown.

Sincerely,
Pablo Concepcion
Sacramento, California

Tiffany:
"We actually do have an exhibition game lined up for Sacramento this September. Because of Sacramento's close proximity to San Jose, the Sharks will act as the home team."

"Also, the Sacramento Barracuda of the West Coast Hockey League are actually the Sharks' AA farm club. Our WCHL farm team is the Chula Vista Gulls."

Wow! I'd be six years old when that game happens. What an unbelievable stroke of luck.

Well, I'll be cheesed. Popeye and Mario in the same running for Favorite Video Game. It must be 1982 all over again!

Here's a breakdown of what each studio will contribute to the Bozo revival....

Disney
New material featuring the Fab Five (Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, etc.) and the Fox Movietoon characters.

Warner Bros.
New material featuring the classic Looney Tunes characters.

Paramount
New material featuring Betty Boop, Popeye, Felix the Cat, Tom and Jerry, the Pink Panther, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Tex Avery characters. Plus new Wallace and Gromit material from Aardman.

Luxor
New material featuring Gumby, Garfield and the Bullwinkle Studios characters (Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley DoRight, Underdog, Peabody and Sherman with Penny, Karen Sympathy, George of the Jungle).

Columbia-TriStar
New material featuring Mister Magoo, Babar, the Care Bears and the DC Superheroes.

Universal
New material featuring Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle and Deputy Dawg.

New Line
New material featuring Inspector Gadget, Madeline, Samurai Pizza Cats and Andy Larkin.

Touchstone
New material under the Hanna-Barbera banner featuring Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw and a character to be named later.

My brother in Christ, how will the Bozo revival fit in all of these?

Bozo will be in a 90 minute format.

Each studio will have one segment airtime for each episode. The different franchises will alternate in a weekly rotation so that you don't see the same characters two weeks in a row.
Thank you. But could we see a second revival from New Line in the process? Madeline seems to be the antithesis to your weekly rotation wheel.

Likely candidates to join Madeline for New Line's Bozo entries.
Inspector Gadget
Heathcliff
Teddy Ruxpin
Bill and Ted
Sailor Moon
Samurai Pizza Cats
Street Sharks
Walter Melon
Andy Larkin

Among that list, I would select Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, Bill and Ted, Samurai Pizza Cats, Walter Melon, and Andy Larkin. Of those six, I'd make Inspector Gadget, Samurai Pizza Cats, and Andy Larkin as three additional New Line revivals.

Wow! Is this the ultimate classic cartoon experience or what?!

With new Garfield material appearing in the Bozo revival, does this mean The Garfield Show will co-exist with Bozo's Garfield segments?

The Garfield Show will likely still be made in 3D while the Garfield material for Bozo will be 2D and reminiscent of the Quickies from Garfield and Friends.

The Garfield Show will likely air either on Festival, Bally's kid channel moving from premium to basic cable, or on CBS's SatAm lineup as part of Luxor's development deal with that network.

Lest I forget...

Sadly, Lorenzo Music still passed away in 2001 ITTL. So a new voice will be necessary for Garfield himself.

Bill Murray is still an option, but there's also John Goodman, John Barnard, Frank Welker, Dana Snyder, Mark Hamill, Patrick Warburton and Maurice LaMarche.

I actually think John Goodman could do a decent portrayal of Garfield. Not sure how you came up with Dana Snyder or Mark Hamil as options, though.
