The Empire Of The Hungry Machine

In the opening years of the 19th Century the men of the New World had no idea of the beast that lay beneath their very feet.

It was a beast that would consume the lives of men and the resources of the world with abandon. Allowing a vile nation to defeat it most noble foes.

But the men did not know this, for in the opening of the 18 hundred and 12 the best was not yet born, but by the end of the year it was.

And it was born in blood.

The war of 1812 was an unparalleled disaster for the United States of America(US). Never again would the US suffer such a one sided defeat, even during the humiliating defeats in China and Central Africa, the US was able to maintain, that they were defeated by factors other then force of arms. This was not the case in the war of 1812, which saw large tracks of US land and the death of the First lady and the loss of the painting of the first President of the US, Gorge Washington. While the painting was revealed to have survived (taken by a British Soldier), it like the land was never returned.

The war shaped the fortunes of Four nations, to the not yet Canada it gave a sense of national unity, it created Michigan and New England and America was shaped by the defeat. Indeed the nation would peruse a policy of revenge for close to forty years.

This war combined with British success on the continent, lead to the golden age of the British empire. But for another Empire the war for it's place in the sun was just being.
