What would happen if Dennis Rodman decided that during his visit to North Korea, that he was going to kill Kim Jung In?

A pod could be that during his visit, he sees really messed up stuff.

He ends up quite dead would be a fair guess and after that one of his brothers takes over. How nasty that take over would be? No idea but quite likely it would be nasty

Yeah, a freak accident is about the only plausible way for that to happen: it's technically possible I guess, with balls flying around, and with Kim's health pretty much unknown one could have a ball tossed by Rodman accidentally strike Kim, causing him to fall and bash his head open on something. Possible, just really, really, unlikely (and unlucky for Rodman)

Well, assuming he survives the reaction of Kim Jong-un's bodyguards, he ends up promptly tried and executed. North Korea blames the US, uses it as propaganda, and because Rodman was a trusted friend of Kim Jong-un, becomes even more paranoid.

Worst case scenario, North Korea claims Rodman to have been an assassin working for the US government, and uses it as an excuse to launch a nuclear attack on the United States...

But on the plus side, Donald Trump would be far too busy rebuilding the NYC skyline to ever run for President. So, win some, lose some. Even nuclear bombardments have silver linings.

Killing a head of state is a clear cut act of war and everybody would see this as a state-sponsored hit. Seoul could get hit with a nuke and the N. Koreans push deep into South Korea regardless. Russia and China likely back North Korea. Since China has a formal treaty to defend North Korea it could easily spin out into a massive war.

Russia has it's own strategic reasons to help the North Koreans, most likely with intel and shipments of high-tech weapons. With a lot of Russian and Chinese support North Korea could likely take South Korea unless the USA uses the nuclear option.

Either way a lot of people die.

In a video game or a bad novel, yes.

You think the DPRK is just gonna sit back and chill when their head of state was murdered?

What do you think would happen if a suspected Russian agent killed Obama? You think the US wouldn't do anything?

I am flumoxed by your reasoning and have decided that I shouldn't have dared enter with my ill-informed comment. Let the tanks of the Korean Peoples Army roll!

First, the days the north koreans would "push deep" into south korea are long over. The South koreans would utterly smasch them even without US help (of which there will be plenty).

second, why the hell would the chinese (and the russians?!) touch the whole conflict with a ten-foot pole, let alone activly support north korea? They have exactly zero interest in a conflict right on their border, they have significant economic ties with the south (especially china) and the norths are a headache for them at the best of times.

And thats just for "support". For either of them to get actually activlyinvolved militarily, their entire leadership would need to suffer massive brain damage at the same time. And even then, not likely.
